The Treasury Solicitor's Department

The Treasury Solicitor's Department provides legal services to over 180 central government departments and other publicly funded bodies in England and Wales, and collect bona vacantia on behalf of the Crown.

We are one of the largest legal organisations in the United Kingdom, utilising the skills of over 800 dedicated employees, half of which are solicitors and barristers.

Our unique position within government and as a major player in the Government Legal Service, our talented and skilled employees, and our detailed knowledge of our exclusively public sector client base ensures that we deliver an unrivalled service.

Our Organisation

Our internal structure has evolved to meet clients' needs and will continue to do so. Our various operational areas work closely with one another to provide a uniquely well-informed legal service. Currently we are structured in three divisions: Litigation and Employment Group, Advisory Division and Bona Vacantia.
